Fractal Presets: Common Questions
Which Fractal units do these presets work on?
Axe-Fx III (all versions, including Turbo), FM9 and FM3. Each product title shows which units it is built for.
They do not work on the AM4 or VP4, which use their own preset formats and a different set of blocks.
Why do some packs have separate Axe-Fx III and FM3 versions?
The FM3 has less processing power than the Axe-Fx III, so some large presets would not fit on it. For those packs we build a dedicated FM3 version that keeps the core tone while staying within the FM3's limits. Packs marked "Axe-Fx III, FM9 and FM3" work on all three as they are. Use the FM3 Only filter above to see FM3 versions.
How do I import the presets?
Connect your unit with USB and open Fractal's free editor: Axe-Edit III, FM9-Edit or FM3-Edit. Open the Preset Manager and drag the .syx files onto empty preset slots. You can also send presets with Fractal-Bot.
Which firmware do I need?
We recommend updating your unit to the latest Fractal firmware and editor before importing. Presets made on newer firmware may not load or may sound different on older versions, and updating also gives you Fractal's newest amp modeling.
Do I need to tweak the presets before playing?
No. Every preset is mix ready and set up with scenes, so you can play right away. Adjust input trim, gain and output level to suit your guitar and pickups.
Can I use them with a guitar amp or cab?
The presets are built for full range playback: FRFR speakers, studio monitors, headphones or direct to a PA. When running into a power amp and real cab, bypass the Cab block on that output so you are not doubling up on speaker simulation.
Do you have these tones for other platforms?
Many of them, yes. We also make Helix Stadium presets, Kemper profiles, NAM captures and Neural DSP presets.
