FAQ
NAM Captures: Common Questions
What is a NAM capture?
NAM (Neural Amp Modeler) is an open source format that uses machine learning to model real amps, pedals and full signal chains. A NAM capture recreates the sound and feel of the original gear, and you can play it in software or on supported hardware.
What is the difference between NAM A1 and NAM A2?
A2 is the new NAM standard, released in June 2026. It is more accurate than A1 and uses noticeably less CPU, which makes it ideal for pedals and floor units. A1 is the original format and works on every NAM compatible device.
To load A2 captures, update your NAM plugin or hardware firmware to a version that supports A2. If your device only supports A1, choose our A1 packs. Use the NAM A2 Format filter above to see the new releases.
Where can I use NAM captures?
On your computer, use the free TONE3000 plugin (VST3, AU, AAX, CLAP, LV2 and standalone app) in any DAW, including Logic Pro, Reaper, Cubase, Pro Tools, Studio One and Ableton Live.
On hardware, NAM runs natively on a growing range of devices, including HeadRush Prime, Core and Flex Prime, Darkglass Anagram, Blackstar Beam Mini and Beam Solo, Hotone Ampero II, Mooer GE1000 and GE300, and Valeton GP5 and GP50. Check that your firmware is up to date, since A2 support is rolling out device by device.
Do Kemper, Helix or Fractal support NAM?
No, not natively. But we capture many of the same amps in their own formats: see our Kemper profiles, Helix Stadium presets and Fractal presets. We also make ToneX profiles.
What is the difference between full rig, DI and pedal captures?
Full rig captures include the amp and cabinet sound, ready for monitors, headphones or a PA. DI captures are amp only, so you pair them with an impulse response or a real guitar cab. Pedal captures model drive and boost pedals, so you can stack them in front of any amp. Need cabs? Browse our impulse responses.
Can I use NAM captures live?
Yes. Load them onto a NAM compatible pedal or modeler, or run the standalone app on a laptop with an audio interface. Once loaded, everything runs offline, no internet connection needed.
Running into a guitar amp or real cab? Use DI captures so you are not doubling up on speaker simulation.
Do you have NAM bass captures?
Yes. Head over to our NAM bass captures.
